Second of four meetings on subjects related to Bharatanāṭyam conducted by eminent artist and scholars.
During her lecture, she will take us on a virtual journey to some of the most beautiful temples of India. We will look at the sculptures representing dance and the episodes from the epics (Ramayaṇa and Mahabharata) to explore how the body language codified in the ancient treatises on Indian performing arts retains its power of expression even in the medium of stone.
Anna Tosato MA in Asian Studies, PhD in Indology, Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) fellow. In India, Anna has been studying Sanskrit and the traditional texts on Indian art under the guidance of eminent scholars. Currently affiliated with the Department of Religion at the University of Illinois (USA). Anna’s research focuses on the relationship between dance and sculpture in Indian temples.
